Or why it was in my field recordings folder. It wasn’t tagged, named, pre-slated, or post-slated. It was just there.
All I know is that for some reason, I find it very comical.

FIREWORKS GO BOOM BOOM KABLAMO. Caps. I recorded some firecrackers going off, and some with short fuses, that went off close to my ear. That’s something sound designer type people want to avoid, we want out ears to stay in good shape. Anyway, here’s how it sounded;
Poppa pow pow pop!
I write a lot o stupid shit in these posts. Some of the firecrackers are different, and I tried a few different gain settings too, that’s why they sound different.
Great sounding storm rolled through here, I did what I do and took my field recorder out. Putting it back out for round two.
Or, thunder, if you use words correctly.
So today, tonight, yeah, more tonight, there was a storm passing by, which is uneventful for most people, but not I! I have a field recorder, and things to record. Of course, I acted. I stood outside for the duration of audible thunder, and got exceedingly wet. However, I got some recordings, woo! Here’s the two best ones, just rolling thunder. There went any really close strikes. Maybe next time!
I was recording some very loud dialogue for a project of mine, that required I yell about two paragraphs worth of dialogue. Afterward, my voice was broken;
This was like three days ago, and my throat is still a bit sore.
I made this a while ago. The original song is From the Depths of Time, by Project Majestic Mix, on the album Squaredance, published by KFSS studios. Vocals by myself. I made it when I was a drunk, and it has BAD LANGUAGE IN IT, so don’t try to listen to it at work or anything.
So, I was outside today, sitting in my barn, on an old kitchen chair that’s in my barn for some reason. Above me, was my field recorder, perched on top of the animal pen. Why was I doing this? Because it was raining! Rain + barn with tin roof = ??? I’m always looking for something to record, and I figured this would be worth recording, so I obviously went and did it. However! I live on Old US Route 35. This is a very busy road, despite not being Route 35 anymore. I recorded for about seven minutes, and none of it was useable because car after car drove by. I still wanted this particular recording, so I figured I’d try again later. I expected to waiting weeks, maybe a couple months for there to be rain at a time when there won’t be any traffic. Instead, it started raining tonight! At about 1AM, it started raining, a lot. Oh boy! I fraintically grabbed all my crap, and headed to the barn. It won’t sound interesting to you, but I was really excited about getting it.
Hooray! I need to wait for this to happen again so I can try a different recording method. Still pleased with the results, though!
Uneventful times are uneventful. Actually I’ve started to realize the benefits of having a lot of source material you’ve recorded yourself. Picking and choosing something that sounds ‘interesting’ isn’t the way to go. Even if you record something boring, that didn’t come out well, you still might be able to use it.
Anyway, I made my first genuine sound effect, oh boy! What is it? Find out below!
It’s some sort of sci-fi pistol thingy! I have nothing to use it for, so until I work on a sci-fi project, it’s just there.
I also hopped on board Brandon/Foszors amateur game development team, Bakburner/Etc. There’s no ‘C’ in ‘backburner’, he says there’s a reason for this, but I suspect he’s lying.
Also had a gaff in my makeshift Foley room, was striking a sledgehammer head with a dull machete and hit my hand, I recorded it, too!
I didn’t like the first piano remaster I did, so I did it again. I think it sounds BETTER THAN EVER. Listen to it.
Original;
First attempt;
Second attempt;
So I made my own!
Here’s the first one I made from scratch. It looks so silly!;

Here’s the bottom of it;

And here’s the one I ‘made’ using the windscreen that came with my H2. I just hotglued some faux-fur to it;

All this means bupkis if it doesn’t screen wind, but they do! See below for proof. The first bit you’ll hear is it without a windscreen, the second bit is it with my homemade windsock, and the last one is the stock windscreen with faux-fur hotglued on. I think the one I made and the one with the fur just glued on sound about the same, it’s going to take some more testing to find out which is better, though;
